Instructors

All AFYD coaches and instructors are professionally trained including child protection and first aid and are subject of enhanced disclosure. The AFYD Instructional teams are lead by their Project Leaders and Senior Instructors.

In East Perthshire the AFYD project is led by Grev Humphrey,Tayside Police, and the Senior AFYD instructor is Stephen Gill, both of whom are AFYD Trustees. Stephen captained Scotland twice and is an SGAIC Instructor and Level 2 Coach

Grev, who is the Trust’s Project Development Officer, is a qualified Level 2 Angling Coach and Stephen, who has fished on 6 occasions for the international Scottish Disabled Fly Fishing Team and has Captained it once, has through AFYD qualified as a Level 2 Angling Coach and an SGIAC Level 2 Game Angling Instructor.

in Renfrew, the rapidly expanding Paisley and Renfrew AFYD is led by Ian Stewart. Ian, another qualified Level 2 Coach, has a staff of 27 volunteers to manage, 4 of whom have so far passed their Coaching qualifications.

The East Renfrew AFYD is lead by our founder’s, John Stewart and George Knight, John currently holds a Level 1 Coaching Assistants Qualification whilst George has his Level 2. They are supported by a team of 15 volunteers, 3 of whom are level 2 coaches or qualified game angling instructors.

The Scottish Federation of Sea Angler’s 14 level 2 Coaches under the direction of of the SFSA’s coaching Director David McNair have also recently joined with AFYD. Based primarily in the Largs, Ayrshire, the Sea Angling Coaches are seeking to expand the Sea Angling courses available throughout Scotland.
